According to police, on Saturday February 7, 2015 at approximately 8:25 PM, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service attended a variety store on Culp Street, Niagara Falls, in response to a robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, they learned that a male entered the store armed with a knife while a female demanded money from the clerk. The couple left the store with no money or property.
At approximately 10:05 PM, the couple attended another variety store on Frederica Street, Niagara Falls. The male held a knife to his female counterpart, in a staged hostage taking and demanded money from the clerk. The male exited the store with a quantity of money with the female following behind him.
Members of Uniform Patrol converged in the area as did members of the Niagara Falls Detective Office. The male and female were subsequently located and arrested.
As a result of the investigation, Kristopher Swinimer, 33 years, and Courtney Steele, 33 years, were arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery contrary to Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
The victims did not receive any injuries as a result of the robberies and both Niagara Falls residents were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
