Police say on June 26, 2012 Niagara Regional Police Service Sergeant Catherine Edgecombe was arrested following an off duty collision involving her personal vehicle and a motorcycle.  She was subsequently charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle with more than 80mg of alcohol in her blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

 

On July 20, 2015 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Hamilton, Sergeant Edgecombe was convicted of:

– Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

A conditional stay has been entered by Mr. Justice Stephen D. Brown regarding the charge of Operate a Motor Vehicle with more than 80mg of alcohol.

Sgt Edgecombe has been sentenced to a fine of $2,500 and is prohibited from driving for one year.

The matter will now follow the internal disciplinary process in accordance with the Police Services Act.
