ORIGINAL REPORT
According to police, on Friday September 4, 2015 at approximately 10:23 a.m., the United States Coast Guard responded to a report of a body floating in Lake Ontario near the mouth of the Niagara River.
The body was near the international boundary and was ultimately recovered by members of the Niagara Regional Police Marine Unit.
Niagara Regional Police, Two District Detectives requested assistance from members of the public in both Canada and the United States in hope of determining the identity of the recovered party.
UPDATE
Police say on September 9, 2015 the identity of the deceased was confirmed to be 62 year old Niagara on the Lake resident Ronald Wood (AKA “Woodsy”). Wood had resided in the area of Charlotte Street and Flynn Street.
Wood had been reported missing to the NRPS on September 7, 2015.
A post mortem has been completed. The cause of death is not being released at this time.
Anyone who may have spoken to or seen Wood in the week before his death is asked to contact detectives in the 2 District Criminal Investigation Branch at 905-688-4111 ext 2200.
