Police say on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 at approximately 1:10 p.m. the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Lincoln Fire Services responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Victoria Avenue at 2nd Avenue in the Town of Lincoln, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 2008 Hyundai Accent motor vehicle was being operated westbound on 2nd Avenue and that the 81- year-old female driver was making a left turn onto Victoria Avenue when she drove into the path of a 2008 Subaru Impreza motor vehicle that was northbound on Victoria Avenue and being driven by a 41-year-old male. The Subaru collided with the driver’s door of the Hyundai. The third vehicle involved was a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo motor vehicle driven by a 72-year-old female that was southbound on Victoria Avenue and in the left turn lane for 2nd Avenue. The Chevrolet collided with the rear of the Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai succumb to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.  There were two elderly female passengers in the Hyundai who were transported to hospital, one with non-life-threatening injuries and the second female had to be taken to a Hamilton Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The two occupants of the Subaru were assessed by ambulance staff and released at the scene.

This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
