On Saturday, August 26, 2017, at approximately 9:00 pm, police say they responded to Merrittville Speedway in Thorold for a robbery that had just occurred.

 

An adult female, volunteering for a local youth organization selling 50/50 draw tickets, was walking through the main parking lot moving from one area of the speedway to another. She was approached from behind and robbed of her ticket sales by an unknown suspect.

The suspect fled the area on foot through the parking lot with an undisclosed amount of money.  The incident occurred away from the main grandstand area while the event was taking place.

Police searched the area for the suspect with negative results. The victim was not physically injured.

At the time of the incident, there may have been people in the parking lot who were unaware of the events that had taken place. Police are asking anyone with information pertaining to this incident to call (905) 688 4111 extension 3300.
