Niagara Regional Police say that since February 15th they have been conducting an investigation of an assault that occurred on Sunday, February 4, 2018, outside of Bill Burgoyne Memorial Arena in St. Catharines.
The circumstances surrounding these allegations involved the verbal abuse and physical assault of a male Hockey Referee following his officiating of a youth hockey game.
Now, as a result of this investigation, Bruce Ruch, a 68 year old St. Catharines resident has been identified as the alleged person responsible for this assault.
On Tuesday, March 20th Ruch was charged with one count of assault and has been released on a Promise to Appear at a future court date and certain conditions outlined in an Officer in Charge Undertaking.
The Niagara Regional Police Service would like to thank the members of the public for their assistance in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.
