The Niagara Regional Police Service By-Law Enforcement & Licencing Unit continues to be actively involved in investigations relating to the illegal personal transportation industry throughout the Niagara Region.

 

Officers initiated a project in June of 2018 targeting the unlicenced industry. As a result of this initiative, a total of eleven (11) charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. These charges include:

Four charges of picking up Passenger for Compensation without Authority

Four charges of failing to Surrender Authority to Pick up Passenger for Compensation

One charge of driving  a motor vehicle without a license

Two charges of failing to wear a seatbelt properly

The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to public safety and will continue to target this illegal industry. The public is reminded to take all precautions when using transportation services and this includes utilizing properly licensed companies.
