Niagara Region is warning residents again this week that if your garbage does not get picked up, you are not alone.

On their main website the message: “We’re experiencing waste collection delays. If your material is not collected on your collection day, please put it out for collection the next day.”

On the Region’s twitter account, the sentiment is the same:

Emterra, the company that picks up our garbage and recycling, has been served notice in the past to the effect that they must improve service or they will be replaced.

The region’s public works committee directing staff in July of this year to start looking at the cost of hiring another company to take over the job.

Emterra has been under fire for months for failing to collect garbage and recyclables on time.

A report by the region’s waste management department has found Emterra only completed collection on seven days on or before 5 pm between March 19th and June 19th of this year.

The company has blamed staff shortages and mechanical problems with trucks for the pickup delays.
